Twitter User Questions Why Navya Naveli Nanda Spoke At US Consulate About Gender Equality In Boardrooms When She Hasn’t Been In One Herself!
Yeh uska expertise nahi hai!A few days ago, Amitabh Bachchan’s granddaughter and Shweta Bachchan’s daughter Navya Naveli Nanda spoke at the US Consulate for a campaign called EntrepreNaari. At the event, Navya spoke about working towards gender equality in boardrooms in India. And let’s be honest, creating gender-equal boardrooms in India is no easy feat and while we appreciate the idea, why was Navya Naveli Nanda talking about the topic as opposed to a woman who works in the corporate world or maybe someone who has carved a space for herself in a boardroom? While Navya Naveli Nanda may be the co-founder of Aara Health and the founder of Project Naveli, she’s a 25-year-old who hasn’t even been inside a boardroom. So, what qualifies her to speak on the topic? And we’re not the only ones thinking this. Recently, a Twitter user pointed out how the 25-year-old star kid spoke about creating gender equal boardroom when she herself hasn’t even worked in an organisation.

Taking to Twitter, a user by the name of Shruti Jahagirdar highlighted how Navya Naveli Nanda spoke at the US Consulate on working towards gender-equal boardrooms in India when she hasn’t even worked at an organisation while the women who have worked in the top 20 companies in the Global Fortune 500 look on. Pointing out that she’s not speaking of Navya Naveli Nanda’s privileges, the woman said that people from all walks of life should speak about gender equality but in this case, the organisation picked the wrong person to speak on the wrong topic which has diluted a topic that is a very important discussion.
Just to be perfectly clear. This is not about her privilege. I believe people of all ages, privileges and classes should speak about gender equality.I have a problem with an organisation matching the wrong person for the wrong talk (topic) and diluting a very important discussion.

And let’s be honest, she does have a point. While Navya Naveli Nanda may be doing well on a personal level and speaking about gender equality on her podcast and working towards it, the fact remains that she has no expertise in the topic about which she spoke at the event at US Consulate. How do we expect to hear the reality of what sexism inside a boardroom sounds like if it isn’t coming from someone who has seen it closely? Navya is a 25-year-old just learning to spread her wings and she’s hardly someone who would be able to take a strong stand on something that she herself hasn’t experienced.
Speaking further, the Twitter user also called out the name of the campaign EntrepreNaari and questioned what is the need to change a gender-neutral word to bring women into it. She slammed the name while adding that changing the term to bring women into it defeats the purpose and adds more empty words to gender equality that come without action. And we agree.
She spoke under a campaign called #entreprenaari. Now tell me why would u change a perfectly gender neutral word to bring the women into the fray?Do we say fire-fightress?Defeats the purpose & adds much bullshit bingo onto gender equality table which is rife with words sans action

This is very much like calling a woman a girl boss or boss lady. Isn’t the boss supposed to be someone who’s your employer? And the last we checked employer could be a person of any gender and adding the term girl or lady to it, just complicates it further and reaps on benefits.
