Kareena Kapoor Khan Says Her Fee Hike For Playing Sita Is About ‘Respecting Women’ And ‘Equal Pay’. We Agree!
One issue that persists in every industry is the one of equal pay for men and women. In recent times, this issue has been picked up by actors from across the globe. In fact, even in Bollywood, we have actors like Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and more who have voiced their thoughts on gender pay parity. And with the media going into a frenzy over the supposed Rs. 12 crore that Kareena Kapoor Khan asked to play the role of Sita in the Bollywood adaptation of Ramayana, this is one hot topic. Kareena received a lot of backlash for asking for a pay hike. After being silent over the rumours, Kareena Kapoor Khan has finally spoken about the fee hike she asked for playing Sita.
Recently, Kareena Kapoor Khan broke her silence and reacted to the unconfirmed news that revolved around the actor asking for Rs. 12 crores for playing Sita in the recreation of the Hindu epic, Ramayana. The actor made it quite clear that it was not her being “demanding” but rather asking for “being respectful towards women.” Makes sense.
Kareena Kapoor Khan who is known for speaking her mind and being fierce with voicing her opinions stated that Bollywood has evolved over the years. She observed that now the talks about male and female actors getting equal pay are a part of the discussion which was not there before.

The actor, who has been in the industry for over two decades told The Guardian, “Just a few years ago, no one would talk about a man or woman actually getting equal pay in a movie. Now, there are a lot of us being very vocal about it.” Kareena even clearly put it across for all to know that she isn’t the one to shy away from asking what she wants.
Being a senior actor in Bollywood, when asked about the rumours of seeking a Rs. 12 crores paycheque to play Sita, Kareena said, “I make it quite clear what I want and I think that respect should be given.” And I agree.

Why doesn’t it cause outrage when male actors quote a certain figure to play leading parts in movies? But when a female actor does the same, she is trolled for it. And Kareena Kapoor Khan has time and again proved her worth in the film industry. There is no denying that even today she is one of Bollywood’s leading actors and is on par with her contemporaries. She has made a mark for herself and she knows her worth. So what is so wrong with asking for what you’re worth? Why should she get trolled for what she asks? And why is it that when a woman asks for her worth, she is “demanding” but when a man does it, no eyebrows are raised? This ideology needs to change. We need to respect our women for asking what they’re worth and be okay with it.
