‘Jhund’ Producer Savita Raj Hiremath Questions Why Her Movie Wasn’t Made Tax Free Like ‘The Kashmir Files’

In a very short amount of time, Vivek Agnihotri’s The Kashmir Files has gained a huge amount of popularity. The story documents the real-life events of when the Kashmiri pandits were driven out of their home state. Not only the audience but also Bollywood actors and the government have been very supportive of the movie. The government has been so supportive that the Kashmir Files has been made tax free in a few states such as Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat. The Assam government even went as far as offering half days so that employees could go watch the movie. However Jhund producer, Savita Raj Hiremath has taken to social media and questioned why her movie wasn’t made tax free and endorsed similarly.

In an extensive Facebook post, Savita questioned the criteria for which a movie is made tax free and why Jhund was not a part of it despite covering a lot of essential subject matter.

Savita said in her Facebook post that she recently watched The Kashmir Files. She acknowledged that the events shown in the movie were heart breaking and it provides as a good voice for the Kashmiri Pandits. However, she said that as the producer for Jhund she is perplexed as to what the criteria are on which the government selects which film to support so extensively so as to make it tax-free, supporting it on social media and also providing half-day holidays to employees so that they can watch it.

She said that Jhund is also an important movie that has a big message and has gotten a lot of praise from the audience. She said her movie has a subject matter that is crucial to India’s growth. She ended the Facebook post with, “jhund is not just talking about the disparity between caste and economic disparity but also shows a way to make the lower strata of society find their success story.”
