“I’ll Never Get Irrelevant. I’m A Legend.”: 10 Unapologetic Statements From Urfi Javed On Trolls, Elitism, Religion, Masturbation, And More

“I’ll Never Get Irrelevant. I’m A Legend.”: 10 Unapologetic Statements From Urfi Javed On Trolls, Elitism, Religion, Masturbation, And More

Understanding Urfi Javed is to love Urfi Javed. No, really. As Indians, we’re conditioned to instantly judge people if they break a societal norm and do what they want to do. I admit, my first reaction to Urfi’s eccentric style was a loud gasp accompanied by a judgemental “What is she even wearing?” But the more I saw her be herself, unapologetically, I began to see her in a new light. Today, I watch Urfi Javed interviews with excitement because they’re entertaining but also call out people’s hypocrisy, and show us how to capitalise on a world that constantly wants to judge if you break the mould. In fact, in the latest episode of Hauterrfly’s very own Yeh Ladki Pagal Hai, Urfi meets Confused Kudi Pavni Mehrotra, and the 20-minute banger of a video is just one grand slam after another by the stylista!

Here are 10 absolutely unapologetic statements Urfi Javed made on Episode 6 of Hauterrfly’s Yeh Ladki Pagal Hai that made us think, it’s Urfi’s world and we’re just living in it!

1. “I’ll never get irrelevant. I’m a legend and I always will be.”

If you think Urfi Javed cares about what the trolls are saying to her, here’s a wake-up call. She doesn’t! In her conversation with Confused Kudi, she talked about how she knew since childhood that she was destined for something big. And while others might let the trolls bother them with their comments, Urfi has removed that component from her life completely. And that does make her legendary if you ask me!

2. “I do not sexualise my body the way people do. But I am just capitalising on that.”

I love a woman who is unapologetic about taking the very patriarchy that tries to suppress her for a spin. Urfi knows how people are going to react to her “bold” (ugh, don’t we hate that word already?) style and her never-seen-before outfits. And she doesn’t mind using that to her advantage. And it’s true, isn’t it? Irrespective of what age a woman is or what she is wearing, the world has managed to sexualise her body anyway. So why shouldn’t women find a way out of it that works for them?

3. “Yes, I want people to see me and talk about me. But doesn’t everyone?”

Urfi has often been labelled an attention-monger and shamed for calling the paparazzi over to click her in her latest outfits. But then, so what? Every celebrity does that! As someone from the media, I can attest to the fact that paparazzi are often tipped off about celebrities appearing, and even when they aren’t, they know their usual haunts and home addresses, and find a way to click them,

But aren’t all celebs in the business of wanting fame and attention? As Urfi says it, “They don’t call me for these awards and red carpets. So I have to mak my own red carpet moment.”

You do it, girl!

4. “They say I’m not of their level. That’s because my level is way higher than their’s.”

Ah! The elitism of award shows and the Indian entertainment industry. Naya kyaa hai isme? Especially Bollywood has been known to gatekeep a lot. But trust Urfi Javed to give it back to the industry’s elitism with her own mantra!

5. “If my image is too bold for TV then maybe your TV needs to get bolder!”

Speaking about not doing enough television lately, Urfi talked about how casting agents for Indian television shows have repeatedly told her that she is too bold for Indian TV. Umm, what is that? So showing ridiculous things like women turning into flies or toxic elders being respected is fine, but a woman who is unapologetically herself is hurting your sensibilities? Double standards!

6. “The limelight is not just for you. If I’m getting the limelight, I’m not taking it away from you.”

Urfi Javed is not new to trolling. But it was particularly sucky to see that people from the industry were throwing shade at her for doing exactly what they’re doing, just differently! Many celebs like Kishwer Merchant and Farah Ali Khan have commented snarky bits on Urfi’s style, and the latter has called them out for it.

While talking to Confused Kudi, Urfi points out how most of the times, it is the “aunties”, or the mothers of star kids or young stars that are more offended by her, while the younger lot does not even care. Tut tut, why? There’s ample of limelight to go for everyone, na?

7. “I’ve openly said I do not believe in religion. Maine theka nahi le rakha Islam ka!”

“Nobody asks terrorist Ajmal Kasab what kind of a Muslim he is? Or a man who has multiple wives and treats them poorly does not get called out for it. But I am being shamed for disrespecting Islam!” Urfi’s got a point! She hasn’t undertaken the sole responsibility of upholding any religion. She can live her life the way she wants to!

8. “You’re not going to get to suck on my b**bs, anyway. So mind your f**king business!”

Easily my favourite part of the video is when Urfi Javed shuts down toxic men who think a woman’s body has to be a certain way for a man’s pleasure. She slams all those who mock women with flat chests and proclaims her love for her own boobs, however they are. She loves them, she loves to flaunt them and not cover them up because some religious edict says so, and more importantly, she doesn’t go around mocking men for their dick sizes. So what gives men the right?

YAAAS QUEEN!

9. “I have known since childhood that one day I can change the world.”

Urfi recently celebrated a major milestone of achieving 3.2 million followers on her Instagram. For someone like me, with barely 800 on her’s, this feels like a big number. But Urfi Javed has grand ambitions, and I love the basis of those.

She says, “3.2 million followers is not a big deal. I want 300 million followers so when I speak something, people listen to it.” I love that!

10. “It’s important for females to explore their bodies.”

This episode made me see Urfi in a whole new light, and her views on sex, masturbation, and virginity was the biggest reason for it. We need more celebs to openly talk and normalise masturbation, talking about female pleasure and busting this unhealthy obsession with virginity that India has.
