5 Thoughts I Had While Watching ‘Tattoo Waaliye’ From ‘Bunty Aur Babli 2’

5 Thoughts I Had While Watching ‘Tattoo Waaliye’ From ‘Bunty Aur Babli 2’

Yet another party number hits the music scene. Sung by Neha Kakkar (of ‘Main Tera Boyfriend’ and ‘Chamma Chamma’) and Pardeep Sran, composed by Shankar-Eshaan-Loy, this Bunty Aur Babli 2 song has taken the internet by storm. Having garnered more than 5 lakh views already, the song Tattoo Waaliye can be easily predicted to be in every shaadi playlist of the upcoming wedding season. It stars Rani Mukerji, Saif Ali Khan, Siddhant Chautervedi and Sharvari.

Having provided 10 views of my own to the music video, here are 5 thoughts that popped in my mind while watching Saif and Rani, and Sid and Sharvari break it down on the dance floor:

1. Talking about Rani, it seems like this actress hasn’t aged a single day since the release of the first Bunty Aur Babli in 2005! Her charms and ‘Babli-ness’ could still be witnessed as she danced with her younger co-stars Siddhant Chaturvedi and Sharvari.

2. Along the same lines, Sharvari (the eager debutant and granddaughter of Maharashtra’s former CM Manohar Joshi), seemed to capture the audience (or me, at least) with her fresh face and dazzling smile. Props to her stylist and make-up artist for giving us another iconic red lip look that will surely be copied this wedding season.

3. Although the set designers, lights and camera crew tried to distract me, the poorly written lyrics could not escape my judgemental ears. Now this song, from Bunty Aur Babli 2, will be stuck in my head and prove to be an earworm. I mean, this one seems to be a follow-up to ‘Nach Baliye’ from the original, which became such a popular number that it was used as the title of dance reality show and is even now popular! But this one seems to be missing that punch, you know?

4. The usual steps of just running around, waving hands and flinging arms are repeated throughout the music video, making the choreography seem very generic and remanufactured. The cinematography accompanying the choreography also seems to be very overwhelming and blinding- the sparkle and glitter of the costumes worn by the actors often clashed with the set design.

5. Last but not least, let’s comment upon the melody and the sound itself. While catchy, it is a stereotypical Bollywood dance number with nothing unique to call it exceptional. Considering the fact that the legendary trio Shankar-Eshaan-Loy produced this song (and the movie’s soundtrack), I expected it to be not so underwhelming and, dare I say, basic.

As a fan of the underrated 2005 Bunty Aur Babli, watching Rani Mukherji on the screen invoked pleasant nostalgic feelings within me. While the song is not really great, lacks good choreography, uninspiring lyrics and unoriginal music video, the song is catchy and you will catch me on the dance floor this wedding season, wearing an outfit and make-up similar to Sharvari’s soon-to-be iconic look.
