5 Thoughts We Had About ‘Bunty Aur Babli 2’ Trailer: W’re Here For OG Babli’s OTT Fashion Statements!

Damn! I should’ve bet on myself when I took a crack at what the plot for Bunty Aur Babli 2 might be after watching the teaser. Just as I’d guessed, the OG Bunty and Babli, Rakesh and Vimmi, are happy in their domestic life when a copycat duo make the headlines, using their trademark name to run their elaborate cons. And now, it’s a matter of, as the trailer says, the pros versus the new cons! Directed by Varun V. Sharma, the sequel to the much loved 2005 YRF blockbuster stars Rani Mukerji, Saif Ali Khan, Siddhant Chaturvedi and Sharvari. And the trailer for Bunty Aur Babli 2 gives us a glimpse into the craziness that is about to ensue, with none other than Pankaj Tripathi added to the mix!

The story is rather evident. The original con artist duo, now parents, are enlisted by the cops to help them catch the new, copycat duo that is using their identity. It’s not just about helping the cops though, is it? It’s more a matter of ego for Rakesh and Vimmi! And something tells me, once they’re back to their old ways in this competition, it’s going to be hard to let go of the adrenaline and fun that they would’ve clearly missed all these years!

Here are 5 thoughts we had about the Bunty Aur Babli 2 trailer:

1. I miss Abhishek Bachchan as Bunty, ya!

I love Saif Ali Khan, I do. And I am excited to see him in this movie. But I’d be lying, and so would be anyone, who said they didn’t miss Abhishek Bachchan as Bunty when they saw the trailer! AB Jr was so good as Rakesh who invented the alter ego Bunty to take the blame for all his mischief, and the way he took on the different characters he had to play. Remember when he sold the Taj Mahal to the seventh richest man in the world?

I still am rooting for Saif, knowing that he and Rani have fun chemistry too so. But yaar, AB!

2. While this was a very easily predicted premise, Bunty Aur Babli 2 still holds a lot of promise if done right.

I know that it’s probably not just me, but many others who might’ve guessed that this is the direction the sequel would take. However, that doesn’t make it any less exciting. At the end of the first film, both Rakesh and Vimmi came close to losing it all and were ready to give up the lifestyle for a chance at normal family life. There would have to be a really good reason for them to jump back into the arena, and I like the idea of them turning into police informers!

3. Very keen on seeing how the older generation matches up with technology-equipped younger one!

The original duo is pitted against a new generation of con artists who don’t just have age and agility but also a bigger imagination and the technological knowledge to stay a couple of steps ahead of them at all times. It’s like bringing Rakesh and Vimmi back to being the underdogs that they were when they met each other for the first time and decided to snatch the edge back from those who were more fortunate than them by turning con artists. I’m also excited to see what Siddhant and Sharvari bring to the table!

4. Here for OG Babli’s elaborate fashion statements, please!

Okay, can we all agree that Rani Mukerji’s Babli closet had some truly memorable looks that are still etched in our memory. I’m not saying all of them were fabulous but memorable? You betcha! The looks from the new one have already got Diet Sabya talking, and our eyes are going to be on our literal queen, Rani, to see what she dons as she slips back into her Babli avatar!

5. Pankaj Tripathi as a cop would be hilarious, but do we get a Kajra Re 2.0 as well?

Another Bachchan replace here, but fair enough because retirement naam ki cheez hoti hai na! New generation, new case, new cop! I’m all on board with Pankaj Tripathi as a cop, finally on the right side of the law, and the mini Sacred Games reunion with Saif Ali Khan. But what I really want to know is, do we get a Kajra Re 2.0 as well? Can you imagine a video with Saif, Pankaj, Rani and… in keeping with the trends of the original one… Bebo reprising Aishwarya’s role? That would be kinda cool no? Anyway, while that’s just a dream, I did notice that Shankar Ehsaan Loy are back as music directors for this one, and I have high hopes for the music of this film, because the songs from the OG, all of them, are ones we listen to even now!

Bunty Aur Babli 2.0 will release on November 19, 2021, in theatres.
