Explained: Why Was An Arrest Warrant Issued Against Haryana-Based Singer-Dancer Sapna Choudhary?
Singer and dancer Sapna Choudhary had landed herself in legal soup with regard to a case against her in 2018. She had a dance show at an event in Lucknow but did not turn up at the designated time. She also had failed to return the money to all those who brought tickets to watch her show. The Lucknow court had also issued an arrest warrant against her after she did not turn up for her court hearing as well. In what comes as a new development in the case, the arrest warrant was withdrawn after she recently made an appearance in court and also issued an explanation regarding her almost month-long absence.

As per reports, Shantanu Tyagi, the additional chief judicial magistrate, asked Sapna Choudhary to furnish a bond of Rs 20,000. She and her lawyer had appeared in court to explain why she was unable to attend court since August 22, which was also the last given date for the case. In her application, Sapna wrote that was absent as she was not keeping well, and that her absence was not ‘intentional’.
Since she had not intimated the court about this, it had issued an arrest warrant against her. But the warrant has now been withdrawn. After the court accepted her application, it also fixed the next date for the case as September 30.

An FIR was filed against Sapna and the event organisers, Naveen Sharma, Junaid Ahmad, Iwad Ali, Amit Pandey and Ratnakar Upadhyay, Iwad Ali, Amit Pandey and Ratnakar Upadhyay. Reportedly, on October 13, 2018, she had promised a dance show from 3 PM to 10 PM in Smriti Upwan in Lucknow. But she turned up at the show after 10 PM while the tickets for the event were sold at Rs 300 both online and offline.

Since she did not hold up her end of the bargain, and also did not return the money to those who had bought tickets, a complaint was filed against her and the organisers at Ashiyana police station.
