The Curl Cream That’s Giving Life To Zahra’s Hair

If you’re a curly-haired girl, you know these issues: crazy frizz, dry hair, and curls that run riot when all you want is for them to behave. And if you’re like me, you’ve probably tried a host of hair products to keep your unruly mane in check. After much experimentation, and using everything from high-end stylers to drugstore products, I had finally settled on L’Oréal Professional Tecni Art Spiral Splendour Nutri Control Cream because it really is a great product for styling dry, curly hair. And at Rs 550 a pop, it’s affordable and really does what it says. It’s what I’ve been using religiously on my hair for the past 3 years after every wash.

However, when this new launch from L’Oréal Professional arrived at my desk a few weeks ago, I was keen to give it a try. After all, a beauty junkie is never really going to pass up the opportunity to try something new, is she? And if you’ve been as traumatised by your sometimes curly, sometimes wavy hair as I have, you’ll definitely want to give something new a shot.

So when the L’Oréal Professional Siren Waves Tecni Art Defining Elasto Cream was sent over 2 weeks ago, I took it home excitedly to give it a whirl.

First things first, that packaging: it’s ultra cute in black and pink, and has a nozzle that easily dispenses the product (be wary of using too much though… more on that later). Then there’s that smell: it’s somewhere between floral and chemical-ly, and wholly unpleasant for my sensitive nose. The good thing is that it doesn’t linger on your hair and vanishes pretty quickly. The formula is a gel-cream, and has a pretty thick consistency and glides on smoothly on wet hair.

Now on to how it fares. The product is designed for any kind of hair, and claims to help define curls or waves on both straight and curly hair. I first used it after washing my hair, and used a generous dollop of the product, finger-curled and scrunched my hair like I usually do, and then let it air dry as I went about my day. The product really did help define my curls and reduce frizz, and also gave it some natural shine, which was all quite lovely.

The other thing the product also claims to do really well is revive curls when you use it directly on dry hair. And that’s where I encountered the problem. Thanks to its thick consistency, it does make your hair greasy and heavy, which is why you need to use this sparingly on dry hair. If you have thin hair, you’ll really want to avoid excess application.

If you have straight hair and are looking for a curl cream, then I wouldn’t recommend this product. However, if you have naturally curly/wavy hair and are in the market for a soft-hold product that can also work as a curl reviver, then this product is for you. It’s perfect for naturally curly hair to help define and revive curls and waves, without any of that annoying crunch.
