Kangana Ranaut Reacts To Sharmila Tagore’s Vande Mataram Remark, Says Art Shouldn’t Be Reduced To Religion

After her many remarks, actor-politician Kangana Ranaut has now decided to reply to veteran actor Sharmila Tagore’s recent remark on the rendition of Vande Mataram. She has asked her to overcome her “Hindi Muslim mindset.” For the unversed, the 81-year-old suggested that the first two stanzas of the national song should be retained, stating that references to Hindu deities in the later verses could be difficult for people who follow a monotheistic faith to accept.
Kangana Ranaut On Sharmila Tagore
Kangana Ranaut took to her Instagram stories and shared Sharmila Tagore’s interview. While she praised her for talking about her opinions, she disagreed with her interpretation of Vande Mataram. Ranaut alleged that artists often use metaphors that should not necessarily be taken as religious texts. For the unversed, the national song is already at the centre of attention over its rendition and the government’s new protocol for the national song at official functions. During their 1937 position, the Congress had confirmed that only the first two stanzas of the Vande Mataram should be sung at party programmes. And during a chat with IANS, Tagore mentioned that the later stanzas can be difficult for those who believed in one God.
Ranaut argued that the national song has the spirit of the freedom struggle and that writer Bankim Chandra Ji has compelled the nation to wake its Shakti. She said that Swami Vivekananda’s famous call for youth with “iron” bodies and “steel” bones was not a weather forecast but a call for Shakti to rise. She urged people to move beyond a Hindu-Muslim mindset, noting that even doctors refer to power as Shakti. She also encouraged people to embrace one another as their own, adding that she absolutely loved him and would not mind receiving the “crushing hug” he always gave her.
