“Hope Their Greivances Are Heard,” 1983 Cricket World Cup Winning Team Issues Statement On Wrestlers’ Protest

The wrestler’s protest has seen some serious turn of events in the past few days. Many concerns were raised after the wrestlers decided to throw their medals into the Ganga River. Even the International Wrestling Federation issued a statement in light of the serious situation. And now, the 1983 Cricket World Cup winning team has put forth their views on the wrestlers’ protest. The team has expressed their deep concerns about the situation and has demanded that justice prevail on the matter.

On June 2, The 1983 Cricket World Cup-winning Indian team finally released their collective statement on the wrestler’s protest. As per the letter, the team has expressed their utter disappointment at the visuals in which the wrestlers were manhandled by the Delhi police. They also raised concerns about the wrestler’s decision of immersing the hard-earned medals into the Ganga River. The 1983 team also highlighted the efforts, hard work and time that an athlete for earning the medals. In the statement, the team requested the wrestlers to not take such a decision and haste and also demanded that be heard by the government for justice to prevail.

Former cricketer Madan Lal, who was also a part of the 1983 Cricket World Cup-winning Indian team also put forth his views in the media. The cricketer. on behalf of the team expressed his disfavour on the wrestlers’ decision to throw the medal. He also urged the Government to address the matter on priority and come to a decision.

Amid this, BJP leader from Maharashtra Pritam Munde recently spoke in favour of the wrestlers. She urged the government to strictly look into the matter and stated that there has been a lack of communication from the side of the authorities. She extended her support to the wrestlers as a woman and acknowledged the struggle.

Wrestler Sakshi Malik one of the lead protestors in the protest released a video a few days back. In this video, on behalf of the protestors, Sakshi Malik stated their determination to continue the protests till they are served justice.
