Trolls Abuse RCB’s Smriti Mandhana Over Bad Performance In WPL 2023. How Low Will They Stoop?

Over the year, we’ve all come across people attacking the wives of cricketers every time they fail to perform well but the same rule does not apply to female cricketers. When they have a bad day or don’t perform well for whatsoever reason, trolls take to attack them and spread negativity for the sake of it. For the first time in the history of Indian Cricket, BCCI has introduced the Women’s Premier League and the inaugural season of WPL 2023 has started already. While several teams had a great start, some didn’t. I mean, it’s a sport so, that’s bound to happen right? And that’s exactly what happened with Royal Challengers Bangalore led by cricketer Smriti Mandhana. But trolls have taken to social media to attack the female cricketer for her team’s poor performance.

Royal Challengers Bangalore lost their first match against Delhi Capitals and then against Harmanpreet Kaur-led Mumbai Indian. Gujarat Giants and Up Warriorz also won against Royal Challengers Bangalore. After facing multiple defeats and a string of poor performances, RCB has come under fire as trolls have taken to social media to slam the team and Smriti Mandhana. Taking to Twitter, a user shared screenshots of the comments section of the female cricketer’s Instagram handle which is full of abusive and derogatory comments. Don’t believe us? See for yourself!

I understand that we take sports very seriously in India, especially cricket however, we must understand the importance of drawing a line. In every game, someone loses and someone wins and it’s not okay to abuse a sportsman or sportswoman for not being able to perform well. Sure, they may need more practice but that doesn’t give us the right to forgetting our limits. At the same time, it’s refreshing to see fans come together to support RCB and Smriti Mandhana.
