Shark Tank India Judge Namita Thapar Recalls Fat Shaming, Being Called ‘Moti’, During Plus Size Brand Pitch

You know, I have realised that women are choosing to ignore social expectations these days. They are unapologetically refusing to follow unrealistic beauty standards that are extremely limiting. However, overcoming body shaming and fat shaming is quite difficult and no one easily forgets how they were criticised for their appearance. Recently, Shark Tank India judge Namita Thapar opened up about being fat shamed and said that she has been called “moti” during a plus size brand pitch.

Shark Tank India judge and the executive director of Emcure Pharmaceuticals – Namita Thapar opened up about being body shamed. In the latest promo of Shark Tank India Season 2, Namita said she has faced body shaming herself while listening to the pitch about a clothing brand selling plus size clothes. She said that she has become the target of body shaming and recalled being called “moti.” Namita further asked them the reason why did they not want to make an exclusive brand for plus-sized women, instead of having all sizes.

After that, the entrepreneurs told her that overweight people are treated like an outcast in the fashion industry and they wanted to make them feel included by not having different plus-size charts and clothes.

Earlier, Namita Thapar had revealed that she was body shamed as a teenager. During an interview, she said that she was judged for being overweight and having facial hair. Thapar mentioned she had acne and used to feel ugly. Furthermore, she added that she had low esteem till the age of 21 as she was bullied for her weight.

Well, the people who judge others for being “overweight” need to understand that their criticism can ruin someone’s life and affect them negatively. Such people should know that calling someone “too fat” or “too skinny” does not make them look cool as they are only spreading negativity.
