Sachin Tendulkar Felicitates Indian U-19 Women’s Cricket Team. Why Were Senior Female Players Not Present?
Felicitating U-19 women's team without senior female players?The Indian U-19 women’s cricket team brought immense glory to the country as it won the U-19 Women’s World Cup on January 29. This was the first time the tournament was played and our young women in blue made everyone proud of them by bringing home the trophy. To appreciate the hard work put in by the team, India’s Master Blaster, Sachin Tendulkar, felicitated the U-19 women’s team. This event took place at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad where he also gave a solid speech about how the team’s win will inspire the little girls in India to become cricketers as well.

In a video shared by the official Twitter handle of the BCCI, Sachin Tendulkar was seen praising the Indian U-19 women’s team for their win against New Zealand. He said that their win is a ‘fabulous achievement’. In his speech, Sachin also assured the team that the entire country will ‘cherish’ their victory for years to come. He also said that he dreamt of becoming a cricketer when was 10 years old during the 1983 World Cup but the U-19 team’s win has given birth to millions of dreams!

Sachin Tendulkar also gave spoke highly of the Indian senior female cricket players who set an example for the generations. He gave a shoutout to the BCCI officials for encouraging women’s cricket. The Bharat Ratna awardee also said in his speech that he is a believer in equality and said that equal opportunities for women are important.

All of it is great but it was surprising to see that no Indian female cricket player was invited to this event. Wouldn’t it be more fitting if any of the players like Mithali Raj, Jhulan Goswami, Harmanpreet Kaur or any of the other female players would have felicitated the U-19 team? No doubt Sachi has been a great player, the number one in the world, in fact, this occasion would have been more momentous if the female players would also have joined in this celebration.
