Rajasthan DGP Says 41% Rape Cases In State Are False, FIR Will Be Filed Against Fake Complainers

That's a huge number!

There have been instances in our country when the police have not filed a rape case. The reasons for the same range from different jurisdictions where the crime took place, to victim blaming and more. And there have been instances as well when women have filed false rape cases to trap men. In what comes as a shocking piece of news from Rajasthan, the state’s Director General of Police (DGP), Umesh Mishra, said on January 16, 2023, that 41 per cent of the total rapes cases in the state are false. Now we understand that women do file fake rape cases but 41 per cent is a huge number, to be honest. 

As per reports, Director General of Police (DGP) Umesh Mishra gave these statistics while talking about women’s safety in Rajasthan. He said that out of the total cases, 41 per cent of cases are false rape cases. He also gave a comparison between false cases filed nationwide and said that all over India, only 8 per cent of false cases are filed. 

Mishra also started comparing the safety of the state with that of Madhya Pradesh and said that MP ranks first when it comes to most rape cases but not every case is registered which makes it look like MP is safe for women. He said that is not the actual situation.

Umesh Mishra also gave clarification on the high number of rape cases by saying that the Rajasthan police has been been given clear instructions that they should always file a rape complaint and that there has to be no dilly-dally when it comes to this serious crime. He also said that in view of the high number of false rape cases, an FIR will be filed against those who register a fake rape complaint and legal action will be taken against them as well.

This statement makes me that has every rape complaint is being investigated by Rajasthan police to arrive at this conclusion? Also, his statement comes off as threatening to those women who might want to register a rape case but they are doubted on the grounds that they might be filing a fake one.
