‘Parineeta’ Director Pradeep Sarkar Passes Away, Mourned By Patralekhaa, Ajay Devgn, Manoj Bajpayee, And More Celebs

What do the films Parineeta, Mardaani, and Helicopter Ela have in common? They were all directed by Pradeep Sarkar, and were all films made on the lives of women. And it is with sadness that I write this that Sarkar has passed away at the age of 67, leaving a legacy of great films behind. The news of his demise was confirmed by filmmaker Hansal Mehta who took to his Twitter account to share the news. Condolences and grievances from Bollywood stars came pouring in the moment this news was shared. Patralekhaa, Ajay Devgn, Neil Nitin Mukesh, and more stars are mourning Pradeep Sarkar’s demise.

Patralekhaa, who worked with Pradeep Sarkar on the Zee 5 film Forbidden Love took to her Instagram handle to share BTS pictures with him when they were shooting the film. She called him by his nickname ‘Dada’ and said that she has learnt so much from him, and will dearly miss him.

Hansal Mehta took to his Twitter handle to share a picture of Sarkar and prayed his soul rests in peace. Ajay Devgn also grieved Dada’s death and offered his deepest condolences to his family. Manoj Bajpayee expressed shock at Pradeep Sarkar’s demise while Neil Nitin Mukesh, too, could not believe this news. He worked with the late filmmaker on the film Lafangey Parinde and wrote that the movie will always remain close to his heart.

Pradeep Sarkar debuted as a feature film director with the critically acclaimed Vidya Balan starrer Parineeta. He, then, went on to helm films like Laaga Chunari Mein Daag which starred Jaya Bachchan, Konkona Sen Sharma, Rani Mukerji, Abhishek Bachchan and others. Helicopter Ela starring Kajol, and Mardaani featuring Rani Mukerji remain some of his best works.

The late director also ventured into directing web series with shows like Forbidden Love and Duranga which is the Hindi remake of the Korean drama, Flower of Evil. Pradeep Sarkar’s portrayal of women-centric stories in his films distinguished his work from others, and that will be missed very much.
