The accused, identified as 24-year-old Heethik Shah from Malabar Hill, has been booked by the Worli police following a harrowing incident that unfolded on January 13th.

Mumbai, often lauded for being one of the safer cities for women in India, is now grappling with the unsettling reality of this heinous crime. The incident sheds light on the darker side of social interactions, as the victim met the accused on Instagram, raising concerns about the potential risks associated with online friendships. The narrative unfolds as the woman and Shah, along with other friends, embark on what seemed like a casual outing. They visited various bars, indulging in alcohol consumption. However, the evening took a sinister turn when the complainant, feeling drowsy, was allegedly taken to a residence in a posh Worli society, where the accused reportedly sexually assaulted her. Disturbed by the traumatic incident, the victim confided in her parents, prompting them to take immediate action. A case was registered against Shah, initially at the Malad police station and later transferred to the Worli police station to align with the incident’s jurisdiction. The charges, including sections 376 (punishment for rape) and 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code, underscore the severity of the alleged crime.

Taking to Instagram, the victim bravely shared her ordeal, describing it as the “most traumatic experience of my life.” She disclosed that despite 12 days passing since the incident, the accused remains at large. The woman detailed her account of the night, alleging that the accused forced her to consume more liquor, leading to a blackout episode. She claimed to have woken up to a horrifying reality – being raped and physically assaulted by Shah.

The victim asserted that the accused threatened her against seeking help, and only the intervention of his friends prevented her from doing so. Desperate, she called her cousin for assistance, later narrating the traumatic incident to her parents, resulting in the filing of an FIR. The accused, in an attempt to downplay the severity of the incident, apologized to the victim, attributing it to a heated situation. However, the victim, in her Instagram post, dismissed the apology as meaningless and revealed that Shah has applied for anticipatory bail. More people are sharing their experiences about the alleged abuser, disclosing that he has a history of repeated offenses since the age of 12 in the comment section of the original post.
