Meerut Girl Molested, Threatened With Acid Attack, Says Police Refused To Help. Where Are Women Supposed To Go To Seek Help?

The funny thing about our society is that women’s complaints or issues aren’t taken seriously and when things get genuinely grave, the woman is blamed for not taking precautions or seeking help. So in this situation, what even are women expected to do? And what about if the situation is so bad that a female student can’t even go back to school? That is exactly what is happening to this female grade 12 student in Meerut who is being harassed and isn’t getting the help she needs from the authorities either.
In a Twitter video by Yogita Bhayana a young girl in grade 12 can be seen being interviewed along with her aunt. They can be seen detailing the young girl’s plight. They say that she has been harassed by some boys from the village next to theirs. The boys’ harassment can go up to pulling the girl’s clothes. Moreover, these boys have threatened her that they will do an acid attack on her if she goes to the police claiming that the police can’t do anything either. Where is a girl to go?

Furthermore, the girl’s aunt said that the police were of no help either as they refused to do anything about the complaint and drove them away. All of this has resulted in the girl’s schooling being halted. So far, they have appealed to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) for help.

It is a shame that despite having law enforcement in place, women still have nowhere to turn. This Meerut girl had to stop going to school in fear of these boys and the police are still not taking her complaint seriously or doing anything to help her. If the citizens cannot ask the police for help who can they ask? It is just heartbreaking to see a girl having to give up on her education because of this.
