Kota Admin Installs Spring-Loaded Fans In Hostels To Prevent Suicide, Internet Says “Fix The Root Cause…”
WTF?

Trigger Warning: Talk about suicide
Kota is considered to be the hub for education for those students who want to pursue medicine and engineering. At the same time, it is also the place where many students pass away by suicide because the stress and competition to crack the exams is sky-high. Seven months of this year have already passed, and 22 students have passed by suicide in Kota. In order to prevent more suicides from happening, the Kota district administration has come up with a shocking idea of installing spring-loaded fans.
A video of this kind of fan installation has surfaced on the internet and internet users are mocking this insensitive way of dealing with the mental health of Kota students. This video of men installing spring-loaded fans in all hostel rooms is widely shared o social media and it shows how seriously are the authorities taking the students’ mental health.

In the video, you can see the men also demonstrate how the fan will not hold the weight of the person hanging, thus preventing suicide. In another video, the President Of the Hostel Association, Kota, Naveen Mittal, was heard saying that the demo for these fans was first given in 2015 and the then director liked this product very much.
People on the Internet are mocking this idea of using spring-loaded fans and are shocked at how mental health is taken so lightly in a place that registers so many suicide cases. The nature of the jokes about the fans might surely be insensitive but the point here s to tell the authorities that the fan is not the problem for the students but the pressure, stress and unhealthy competition among the students is.
Yaar had hai. Root cause Extensive pressure hai. Pankha nahi hai.
Kuch bhi chal rha hai.

One of them said that this device will remind the students about why it is installed which will also be disturbing.
This is rather more depressing to install such equipment that reminds students why its install.
Peers/family pressure, constant ranking in coaching centres, back to back competition exams combined with school exams. There are several root causes why a student takes extreme step…

Another also said that the education system needs to be changed not the fans.

A more constructive approach would be to focus on addressing students’ mental health and stress. Offering psychological counseling and support can be beneficial.

So according to these smart ones, the root cause of the problem is the fan and there is no other way for students to harm themselves fatally

Common sense: Reduce pressure on students, educate parents on students facing mental health issues, counsel students and provide comfort.
Step Taken: Pankhe me spring lga lo koi latak hi nahi payegg!

Ban vehicles/trains in Kota as students might try to get under them. Ban high rising buildings as students might jump from them. Ban rivers, ponds, knives, blades, sharps, etc. Don't address the root cause, address the effect.

It is shocking how mental health experts or doctors were not consulted before going ahead with this ridiculous idea.
