Parastoo Ahmadi Reportedly Punished For Performing Without Hijab!
As per a report by The Guardian, Parastoo Ahmadi’s said concert was streamed on YouTube back in 2024. The performance, which garnered millions of views, reportedly featured the patriotic track titled ‘Javanane Vatan’ (From the Blood Of The Youth Of The Homeland.) In it she didn’t wear a hijab, which is a requirement under the Islamic dress regulations. Additionally, women are prohibited from performing solo singing concerts in front of a crowd. For the same, she has reportedly been sentenced to 74 lashes and barred from travelling and pursuing artistic activities for two years. It is also being said that the eight people for the production team have also been barred from traveling to foreign locations and doing artistic work. The authorities reportedly alleged that the said content violated public morality standards. The people involved have been accused of creating and sharing “vulgar and immoral” content. It’s worth noting that the ruling has not yet been formally published by Iran’s judiciary news agency.
Here’s What We Think
At this point, the punishment for Parastoo Ahmadi seems like the weaponization of patriarchy. Here, the real threat isn’t the singer not wearing a hijab or her performing online in front of millions, but the realness of the women who refuse to follow rules that control their bodies, creativity, and freedom. How long will women need to wait for people to realise that they don’t need permission to choose what they want?
