5 Yrs After #MeToo Allegations, Harvey Weinstein Held Guilty Of Rape
A win for the women!Years after over a dozen sexual abuse allegations in the #MeToo movement, Hollywood Producer Harvey Weinstein has been once again found guilty of rape and sexual assault. In a two-month-long second criminal trial of the movie mogul, the Jury deliberated for 9 days before convicting Weinstein of 3 counts of rape and sexual assault against a woman. This is a huge win for the women who accused the man of sexually abusing them.
Earlier, in his first trial in New York in 2020, Harvey Weinstein was convicted of sex crimes and sentenced to 23 years in prison. And with the court finding him guilty of more sex crimes, he is currently looking at up to 24 years in prison. This case was focusing on sexual assault allegations made by 4. There were 3 charges of rape and 4 charges of sexual assault against Weinstein stemming from 2005 to 2013.

During the course of the trial, a jury of 8 men and 4 women heard testimonies from over a dozen of witnesses and after 9 days of deliberation, the jury held Harvey Weinstein guilty of one count of rape and 2 counts of sexual assault against one anonymous woman believed to be a European model and actor. Another woman had accused him of sexual battery but the movie mogul was acquitted of the charge. The wife of California Governor Gavin Newsom, Jennifer Siebel Newsom had also made allegations against the Hollywood producer but the jury couldn’t reach a verdict on the same and declared a mistrial on those counts.
Soon after the verdict, Jennifer Siebel Newsom issued a statement asserting that what he did to her was rape even if the jury was unable to come to a unanimous verdict. Calling him a “serial predator”, Jennifer said that Harvey Weinstein will never be able to rape anyone again and will spend the rest of his life in jail. She also called out Weinstein’s lawyers for using “sexism, misogyny and bullying tactics” to intimidate the survivors.

Our heart goes out to Jennifer Siebel Newsom considering the mixed verdict but we’ll take this win for the other survivors. It’s a relief to just know that a predator will be put behind bars and will not be let out in society to commit such crimes against women ever again.
