Harvey Weinstein Sex Crimes Trial To Begin On October 10. Here’s A Reminder Of All The Crimes He Has Been Accused Of

In October 2017, film producer Harvey Weinstein was accused of rape, sexual assault and abuse by over 80 women from the film industry, and this news came as a shocker to the world. He faced severe backlash on social media, and the world came to stand united with the victims against him. All these allegations against him led to his removal from The Weinstein Company, which is an American film studio. Not just this, he was also expelled from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Harvey Weinstein is already sentenced to 23 years in prison after he was convicted of the sex crimes he committed. His trial based on his comes starts today, Monday, October 10, 2022. He will face the jury in Los Angeles, and reportedly, if he is convicted again, he will face an additional 140 years in prison as well. On that note, here’s a reminder of the sexual crimes he has been accused of.

The news of his sexual assault and misconduct first broke out five years ago when The New York Times reported that has been sexually abusing female assistants for three decades on sets and actresses, and also paying them to not report his misdeeds. Rose McGowan and Ashley Judd were also among the first victims to come forward and report him. Weinstein was accused of forcing women to give him a massage and also promising to help them in their careers if they complied with his demands.

In the same year, 13 other women come forward and accused Harvey that he raped them. Angelina Jolie and Gwenyth Paltrow also said that Harvey harassed them. Following these events, his wife also announced that he is leaving him to prioritise their young children. Cara Delevingne came forward saying Harvey made ‘unwanted’ advances against her. Many women have also come forward to say that he forced them to have oral sex with him. Some have even accused him of sexual battery.

Harvey Weinstein is a prime example of how powerful men think they can get away with crimes like these because they can always buy the victims out. They have zero fear of the victims coming out to report them because they think no one ever will, and even if they do, they will always be given the benefit of the doubt because of their power, position and money. But we are glad that in the Harvey Weinstein case, women came out to report him and this whole matter snowballed into the #MeToo Movement that gave a voice to the victims of sexual abuse.

We’re waiting for an update on the first session of the Harvey Weinstein trial.
