Delhi Govt. To Setup 250 Women-Only Parks As “More Comfortable Spaces.” Because Men Can’t Be Trusted To Behave!

We are all aware of the safety of girls in Delhi. The bone-chilling crimes reported every other day from our National capital has somewhere made us hopeless about things getting better for women anytime soon. However, the authorities are constantly coming up with new initiatives to curtain the rising crimes against women in the city. In a new attempt to do so, the Delhi government has now introduced a plan to make 250 women-only parks in the city to provide a safer space for them. Definitely a good thought but alas we have reached a point where men need to be away for women to be safe!

Recently, the Delhi Municipal Corporation announced the new initiative of making 250 women-only parks in the city. This project has already started and currently, the MCD is looking for suitable parks to create women-only parks. The motive behind this is to make suitable spaces for women and children which are comfortable and safe.

The Delhi Deputy Mayor Aaley Mohammad Iqbal also gave an example of this kind of setup which will be called “Pink Parks”. A similar kind was also started as a pilot project on Delhi’s Mata Sundari Road. In this park, only women and children till the age of 10 are allowed to enter. As per the news, the Deputy Mayor has proposed similar kinds of parks in the ward, and it will also have CCTV and gym facilities. Graffitis will be used to make the parks look more attractive. Currently, the Delhi Municipal Corporation is looking for parks where this setup can be started.

Well, this initiative is a good step to ensure women and children can safely enjoy some recreational time. These kinds of parks will provide women with a sense of security to freely spend quality time. However, isn’t it sad that to ensure this safety, the authorities have finally decided to keep men away from such places? Instead of teaching men how to behave and respect women, we are isolating women to give them a sense of safety.
