Drunk Driver Molests DCW Chief Swati Maliwal During Women’s Safety Inspection In Delhi
This is beyond shocking!
Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati Maliwal has always been one to look out for women, be it cricketer Rohit Sharma’s wife and daughter or wrestler Vinesh Phogat or the Delhi hit-and-run. Swati Maliwal is quick to take action and push the authorities to speed up the probe into a crime against a woman. She also actively speaks up against the crimes against women while doing everything in her power to keep women safe in the national capital. But it’s no easy task. The DCW chief took to Twitter to reveal a shocking incident that took place on the night of January 18. Sharing that she was out in Delhi to inspect the condition of women’s safety at night when she was molested by a man.
In her shocking tweet, DCW chief Swati Maliwal revealed that she was inspecting the security of women in Delhi at night when a car driver, in a drunken state, molested her. She went on to share that when she caught hold of him, the man trapped her hand in the car window and dragged her. The DCW chief slammed women’s safety and Delhi and said that if the chairperson of the women’s commission isn’t safe in the national capital, one can only imagine what the situation must be like.

While DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal did not clarify if a police complaint has been filed or not, according to an India Today report, FIR has been filed and police have revealed that the incident took place around 3 am. The drunk driver, identified as 47-year-old Harish Chandra molested the DCW chief and when she was scolding him for molesting her and pressuring her to get into the car, he drove off. But he then took a U-turn and returned to force her to get into his car and as she tried to catch him through the window he rolled up the window and trapped her hand into it. He dragged Swati Maliwal for about 10 to 15 meters. As per the report, the man has been arrested by the authorities.
Accused, Harish Chandra, 47, was in an inebriated state and has been arrested. FIR has been filed. Medical examination of accused & victim was done. It’s beyond shocking that just days after the recent Delhi hit-and-run, yet another incident has taken place and that too with the chairperson of DCW. How are women going to ever feel safe in a place where even the DCW chief isn’t safe? It’s time we stop looking at shallow issues and take a long and hard look at where we are going wrong as a society. If years after multiple complaints, protests and raising awareness, women still cannot be safe in our country’s capital, there must be something fundamentally wrong. And it’s time we fix the rot from the root.
