CarryMen is a startup that provides services in Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar. One can book an assistant for up 30 minutes to 4 hours to perform tasks, including holding shopping bags, helping to move through busy areas, and standing in a queue for them. The company’s website mentioned their goal, which is to make shopping a more comfortable and stress-free experience by providing trained, supervised, and reliable shopping assistants directly inside markets. They mentioned that the assistant would hand the customer’s bag and accompany them safely to the parking area or the metro gate.
Umm, Is It Really Needed?
When a picture of CarryMen’s assistant hit social media, many started bashing the service and calling out the “privileged” while pointing out the economic disparity in India. A person reportedly penned that the fact that this job exists just reflects the Indian economy and how the “demographic dividend has been squandered.” Another person shared on X that this service was great for senior citizens whose kids do not live in the same city. Others just simply wrote that they don’t have any problems with it.
In Lajpat, you can now pay ₹149/hr for someone to carry your bags, wait in food queues, walk you to the metro, find you a place to sit, and even set up a foldable chair.
