6 Drunk Men Abduct And Gang-Rape Dancer In UP’s Unnao. Women’s Safety Has Become A Myth!

As an Indian citizen and moreover a woman of this country, I am ashamed to see the rising rate of crimes against women. And, say this honestly, but don’t you feel the same? Every day, we get up to at least one petrifying rape or murder case, and the degree to which they are committed is painful to hear. And as we speak, another gang rape case has been reported from Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao. The same place where many shameful rape cases made it to the National news.

The victim of this recent gang rape case was a dancer who along with her team went to perform at the birthday party of a rich property dealer. The police filed a complaint against the six men after the victim gave her statement. While narrating her ordeal to the UP police, the victim revealed that she was leaving the dealer’s premises when six men abducted her in their car. The allegedly drunk men took her to a jungle on the outskirts of the city and then raped her, as per the news.

As per the reports on this case, the six men are currently on a run, but the police have assured that their team is on a hunt to find and arrest them as soon as possible. In this case, the incompetency of the police to handle rape cases also came out when the victim revealed that the Jamjau police did not help her in the situation. She then had to approach the Kotwali police to get her FIR filed. The victim was immediately sent for a medical examination. The police have charged the accused men with Section 376 under the Indian Penal Code.

A police’s job is to make the people feel safe under their guard, and take appropriate actions in cases of a grievous crime. The fact that Jamjau police simply chose to help the woman in distress brings the biggest flaw in our law and justice system to the forefront. But what are we doing to fight the problem? Many women in the past have pointed out the flaws of the authorities but it’s just forgotten after a few days. We just hope that the victim is not subjected to more pain and pressure in the process of getting justice.
