How This Feminist Website Paid Witches To Curse Charlie Kirk, 2 Days Before He Was Shot

In a shocking and intriguing turn of events, feminist website Jezebel has found itself under fire after publishing a piece about paying Etsy witches to hex conservative activist Charlie Kirk, two days before his murder. Although the article was written before the shooting occurred, it has sparked controversy, causing Jezebel to put out an emergency editor’s note denouncing all political violence. Feminist Website Jezebel Under Fire For Publishing Witch Curse Article On Charlie Kirk

The article titled “We Paid Some Etsy Witches to Curse Charlie Kirk” was a satirical piece that mocked the founder of Turning Point USA and explained how the author had paid “multiple curses” on Etsy for alleged witches to send to Kirk to inconvenience him, not harming him. Among those purchased were spells to get people to hate him, to give him a daily zit, or to mess up his podcasting microphone—novelty taunts presented as “the collective feminist power of the Etsy coven.”

Two days later, Charlie Kirk was shot and killed on a stop for his American Comeback Tour at Utah Valley University. A shooter fired one shot into the neck of the musician on Wednesday afternoon. A potential suspect was briefly taken in but then released, and the FBI continues to investigate.

Jezebel’s Response

Jezebel responded by attaching an editor’s note to the original article, emphasising: “This story ran on September 8. Jezebel strongly condemns the shooting of Charlie Kirk. We do not support, promote, or condone political violence of any sort.” The byline was also altered to a generic “By Jezebel.”

Josh Jackson, president of Paste Media Group, which owns Jezebel, later explained that the piece was intended as satire and “a tongue-in-cheek exploration of people selling hexes on Etsy,” not inciting violence. He called Kirk’s killing tragic and said these types of political attacks have become disturbingly common.
