We can be very dismissive of our voting rights and have a casual attitude towards voting. However, a 112-year-old woman from South Bombay haa highlighted the importance of stepping out to vote after she declined the offer of voting from home, a facility given to old-age people above 85. The 112-year-old woman Kanchenben Badshah has set an inspiring example of how significant it is to exercise your powers in this democracy.

May 20 is the day for Mumbaikars to cast their vote for the Lok Sabha Elections 2024. As per rules set by the commission, people over the age of 85 have been provided by the facility of door-to-door voting. However. 112-year-old Kanchenben Badshah declined the facility and has opted to vote from the polling booth itself. As per a report by India Today, Kanchenben strongly believes that people get motivated and inspired to cast their vote once they see others step out to vote.

The nodal officer of the Election Commission was impressed by her decision and honored Kanchenben Badshah for her determination and commitment to the country. As per the report, Kanchenben also asked the young voters to vote and use their democratic powers. Her grandson also stated that Kanchenben’s presence at the polling booth convinces people to cast their votes and sometimes people also click selfies with her.

Kanchenben Badshah, who is now 112 years old has been a witness to many historical events of the past.
