Cannes 2022: Women Activists Dressed In Black Walk The Red Carpet To Protest Against Domestic Violence

The prestigious event of Cannes is no more a red carpet for glamour and fashion. This year the red carpet has seen some more surprises than usual. Recently a Ukrainian woman stripped her clothes on the Cannes red carpet. The message “Stop Raping us” was painted on her torso and she shouted the same in front of the crowd. The platform yet again has been used for raising awareness about the rising domestic violence against women. A group of women activists walked down the Cannes red carpet to raise awareness about the aforementioned issue.

A group of women activists wearing all-black outfits walked the red carpet with a white banner which had the names of all the women who died due to domestic violence in France. The protesting women also carried smoke grenades. The video posted on social media has taken the internet by storm.

According to a report by Wion, the protestors are still unidentified and no information on it has been found whatsoever. The Daily Mail reported that the banner listed the names of 129 women who had been victims of domestic violence since the last Cannes festival. The list referred to the 129 women who died in domestic killings in France.

The protest took place at the premiere of the movie Holy Spider.  It is a movie that revolves around a serial killer. The film is set in Mashhad, Iran, and follows a female journalist who is investigating a serial killer who has murdered several sex workers in the city. It is directed by Ali Abbasi. The last protest of the Ukrainian woman took place at the premiere of  George Miller’s movie Three Thousand Years of Longing.
