Woman Graduates With Her 87-Year Old Grandfather, And Their Photo Is Winning Everyone’s Heart

We meet many people in our life but some people leave a special mark with their exceptional stories that can inspire us in so many ways. It can be your friends, parents, grandparents and even total strangers you haven’t even met. This special story is just like. A woman and her 87-year-old grandfather both graduated on the same day and their story has inspired so many people to achieve their dreams even if they think it’s too late for it.

A woman named Melanie Salazer graduated on the same day as her grandfather Rene Neira. Melanie got her BA in Mass Communications degree and her grandpa was awarded a BA in Economics degree. You know, there’s a saying that learning has no age and Grandpa Rene became a true epitome of that when he got his bachelor’s degree at the age of 87. The story is so heartwarming that UTSA College of Liberal and Fine Arts posted the inspiring moment on their social media handle. With a few pictures of the duo attending the commencement ceremony together, the tweet read, “ICYMI: Something very special happened this weekend at #UTSA Commencement: Rene Neira, 87, crossed the stage with his granddaughter, Melanie Salazar. She received her B.A. in Comms. He will earn his B.A. in Economics. Family goals!”

Take a look at the post here:

The post has gained more than a thousand likes and people are praising them in the comment section. A faculty member posted the picture and shared that when the two were crossing the stage Melanie told her grandfather, “We did it grandpa,” and described it as the best grad moment. And just like that, the whole internet went emotional!

According to Melanie Salazer, Neira had attended St. Mary’s University in the 1950s. He left college when he got married. But after his wife’s death, he decided to complete his education and joined his granddaughter at UTSA College of Liberal and Fine Arts in 2016. He was 82 when he entered college to complete his education again. She also added that Neira is terminally ill and had to use a wheelchair during the ceremony but that did not stop him from participating in the commencement ceremony.
