Woman Gang-Raped By 4 Men When She Went To Lawyer To Get Husband Bailed

I feel like a broken record sometimes when I discuss how unsafe women are in India. There are more than enough instances that prove that a woman is unsafe even at the hands of law enforcement too. So who are we to trust? Clearly, no one after reading this case of a woman who went to seek help from an advocate to get her husband bailed getting gang-raped, the advocate himself has been accused as well. Where are we going as a society?

The police said on December 28 that four men, including an advocate, were arrested as they were accused of being gang-raping a woman in Sector 2 of Noida. The woman had gotten in touch with an advocate seeking help for the bail of her husband. According to the police, this incident happened in October in Ballabgarh, Haryana. According to TOI, a senior officer said that the woman approached the advocate for help with her husband’s bail. He took her to his office in Noida sector 2 for documentation where 3 other men joined them and gang-raped her. “The accused have made a video of the act & threatened her to face the consequences if she reported the incident,” the officer added.

No matter how many times I read about stories of women getting abused, assaulted, raped, gang-raped, etc, they always make my skin crawl. As a woman myself, these incidents make me not want to approach anyone for help by myself, no matter how unrealistic that can be. I hope these rapists get what’s coming to them and are severely punished for their disgusting actions. I cannot even fathom being a lawyer, someone who works for the court of law and still being able to do such a heinous crime. But then again, a misogynistic and rotten mentality isn’t limited by profession or educational qualifications.
