Indian Born Pakistani Singer Nayyara Noor Dies At The Age Of 71. Here’s What You Should Know About The Legend

There are very few veterans left in the world of music who break the barrier of borders and bring in all the music lovers under one roof. Nayyara Noor was one such legendary singer but sadly she is no longer with us. Noor has played a vital role in leaving behind a rich legacy in the world of music. The news of her sudden death was broken by her nephew on Twitter. Nayyara Noor was an India-born Pakistani singer who died at the age of 71. She was popularly known for her Ghazals. On August 21, Sunday, Noor’s nephew Raza Zaidi took to his social media handle to announce the sad demise of his aunt.

Childhood

Nayyara Noor was born in Guwahati, Assam in the year 1950. Her father was a member of the All-India Muslim League. Nayyara Noora’s family migrated to Lahore, in Pakistan’s Punjab province somewhere around the year 1958. Since her childhood, Nayyara Noor was very much fascinated by singing but surprisingly, she never received any professional training in the field. In one of her interviews, the singer also put forth her fondness for Kanan Bala, Begum Akhtar, and Lata Mangeshkar. 

Her Singing Career

Nayyara Noor’s class-apart singing talent was first discovered by Professor Asrar Ahmad of Islamia College. She formally started her career when she started singing for the National College Of Arts Pakistani Radio Programmes. Her singing career turned professional when she became the playback singer for a Pakistani serial in the year 1971. Nayyara Noor was a celebrated artist in the world of Ghazals. She gave her voice to the ghazals written by Faiz Ahmed, Ghalib, etc. 

Awards And Accolades

Nayyara Noor was awarded the title of Bulbul-E-Pakistan in 2006, which stands for Nightingale of Pakistan. She also received the Pride of Performance award in 2006. Noor was also given the title of the best playback singer for the film Gharana.
