Report Highlights Gender Pay Inequality More In The Healthcare Sector

Gender pay disparity is a major issue that is faced by women across the world. It is a serious concern that women are earning less for the equal amount of work as their other male colleagues. The problem has been discussed on various platforms, however, it still exists widely. The reasons for which remain unanswered. The problem is prevalent in every sector of work, however, In a recent report by World Health Organisation (WHO) and International Labour Organisation(ILO), it has been concluded that women are earning comparatively less than men in the health and care sector.

The joint report by WHO and ILO reveals that women employees receive a larger pay gap than their male colleagues in the healthcare sector. The inequality is more in this sector as compared to the other economical sectors. According to the report women earn 24% less than men, and there are various factors that contribute to this. It also says that women make up 67% of the health and care sector, and highlights that the findings also reveal that pay for women is less in sectors that are predominantly women-centric.

The report by WHO and ILO  further suggests that the reason for the disparity in wages has not been explained as well. It also goes on to suggest some factors that add to the unequal pay in the sector, like the differences in age, working time, and education. Also, the participation of men and women in public and private sectors adds to the factors.

Another important finding that the study highlights is that a working mother faces a lot of difficulties in this case. It further reveals that during the reproductive years of a woman, their employment is significantly affected and the gender pay gap also increases drastically. The scenario remains the same throughout their career post that. The study also found that the pay gaps vary in every country and suggests that it is not difficult to tackle the problem.

The report has revealed some very raging issues that need to be addressed by the government of every country. A woman deserves equal pay when she is putting in the same amount of effort and hard work as her male counterparts. The report’s findings should be taken into consideration.
