5 Ways That Will Help You Stick To Your New Year’s Resolutions In 2022

From my editor to my mother, multiple people have come to me in the span of three days and told me, “New Year resolutions are meant to be broken,” a statement that I’m now very well-versed with. Seeing my past track record, I know I should believe in this statement, but for some reason, I have hope that this year is going to be different and I’m going to end up sticking to my New Year’s resolution. How you ask? Well, I have come up with 5 ways that I strongly believe will work and help me and others like me to stick to our resolutions.

Every new year, most of us come up with resolutions that we either forget or give up on by the end of the year. And then we start the next year feeling either guilty or sad about how we couldn’t stick to our resolutions. And I have been no different. This is why, I learnt from my past mistakes and came up with 5 ways that will help me and you to stick to this year’s resolutions.

Here are my 5 ways to stick to New Year’s resolutions:

1. Be realistic

One of the most basic mistakes that we tend to make is either making too many New Year resolutions or having unrealistic standards as resolutions. So, it’s time to make a standard, simple, and basic resolution which is practical and realistic. Make sure your goal is attainable and then take it from there.

2. Make a plan

Make a plan or a list of what you might have to do in order to achieve your resolutions. Make sure the steps you plan are baby steps so you are not stressing yourself out about not doing it correctly. Give yourself the freedom to fail as well but also come out of it and start again.

3. Reward yourself

With every step of your resolutions plan you achieve, treat yourself with something you like. Of course, don’t overdo it but celebrate the small successes you make while on your journey to completing your New Year goals.

4. Track your progress

After every small success, make a note of it (peeps, this is where you can put those planners to use). Doing this will help you realise how far you’ve come then when you started with your resolutions, which will, in turn, will motivate you. And it will also let you know how much more you have to work for or how much more you can push yourself to take the next step.

5. Push yourself more

If you end up not doing enough or going according to the way you wanted, don’t despair. You can rework and recommit on your resolutions and start all over again. Remember the reason why you set yourself to achieve this goal in the first place and go at it again.

New years bring a tonne of opportunities and a fresh start that you can use to your benefit. Take the opportunity, seize the day, folks because the time is now and I’m pretty sure there is a lot we’d want to set as resolutions. So let’s get going!
