Vijaywada Man Installs Life-Size Statue Of Deceased Wife To Keep Her Memory Alive

Love is such a subjective thing. How people choose to show their love for the people in their lives is very personal to them and their comfort level. Because of this, I am not too harsh on anyone who chooses to commemorate a  loved one using unconventional methods. This can be said for this man from Vijaywada who installed a statue in the memory of his late wife.

A Vijaywada electrician named Mandava Kutumba Rao has installed a life-size statue of his wife after her demise. He spent 7 lakhs to “bring her home.” Mandava is popular for his contribution to society and the environment. Mandava Kutumba Rao and his wife Kasi Annapurna tended to an organic garden on their roof and also the roadside plants.

Unfortunately, Mandava’s wife Annapurna passed away last year during the first wave of Covid-19. This caused him to get depressed and stay away from work as well. After coming across an article about a Bengaluru family installing a statue in their home, Mandava’s daughter named Mandava Sasya, who lives in the US, was inspired to do the same for her father to keep him company.

The statue was made by Vijaywada based sculptor called Prasad who worked on the statue for around 40 days. The statue was installed on a swing in Mandava’s house. “I’m emotionally connected to my wife who spent 40 years with me. She is a nature lover and her memories haunt me. I was very happy to see my wife’s life-size idol. It made me feel like my wife is with me all day,” said Mandava Kutumba Rao to TOI.

Losing a loved one is never easy. I suppose all of us have experienced that type of loss at some point or another, majorly after the pandemic. While we can’t bring the people we lost back, we all can find different ways to grieve and get over our loss and pain. I am glad that Mandava Kutumba Rao was able to find that solace in a statue of his wife.
