US Ambassador Calls For The Removal Of Iran’s Membership From The United Nations Panel On Women. A Good Move!
Women in countries like Afghanistan and Iran are going through the oppression that we cannot even imagine. Every other day, there is distressing news of violence and inhumanity committed against women in these countries. Especially in Iran, the death of Mahsa Amini sparked raging street protests by Iranian women and citizens, which the authorities tried to break down through aggressive measures. These acts of violence against women by their own government in power are always condemned by world leaders and human rights organisations. But looks like there will be more than just words because the United States has asked for removing Iran from the United Nations Panel for women, on grounds that the UN should not be associated with countries like Iran.
The United Nations panel discussion that happened on November 2, Wednesday was a platform that was used by US officials to call out the Iranian government’s atrocities against its women. The United States ambassador clearly stated that it is necessary to take action against Iran as just condemning with words will not be enough. US Ambassador, Linda Thomas-Greenfield also stated during the meeting that the USA with the support of other countries would try to remove Iran from the UN Commission of women, and any other form of the UN that is justified, as per the news. In fact, she also praised the Iranian citizens for their protest and for making the world know about the injustices women go through in Iran.

Well, it’s great to see that world leaders are now realising that just words will not help, and a lot more has to be done by powerful countries to make the voice of the oppressed stronger. A country that does not respect its women and does not even allow them to live with dignity and freedom cannot bring progressive ideas to the table anyways.
