Michelle Obama, Taylor Swift, Vir Das And More Express Dissent On US Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade Overturning

Roe v. Wade was a landmark decision made by the United States Supreme Court on women’s abortion rights. It prohibited states from banning abortions. However, the decision made headlines again a few months ago when Politico published a leaked document stating that the US Supreme Court intends to overturn the Roe v. Wade decision, which meant that many Republican-led states would be more likely to completely ban abortions if the prohibition was lifted. This would essentially deprive women in the United States of a fundamental human right. It was only a leaked document at the time, but the world was shocked by the news when on June 24, the United States Supreme Court put forth its decision to overturn the Roe v. Wade decision. The decision was made with a 6-3 ruling, propelled by its conservative majority. The court upheld the Mississippi-backed law which prohibits abortion after 15 weeks. The decision received a severe backlash on Twitter. Many known names like Michelle Obama, Taylor Swift, Barrack Obama, Vir Das, and others took to Twitter to share their utter disappointment in the decision. The Twitter reactions are proof of how angry everyone is with the decision.

This decision sent shock waves not only to the United States but to the whole world. It is considered to be a black day for human rights, as now women will no longer have the freedom over decisions of their own bodies. Michelle Obama took to her Twitter handle to release a heart-wrenching note on the US court’s decision. She called the decision a “horrifying” one and also wrote that it would have severe consequences.

Even singer Taylor Swift put forth her opinions on the matter.

Former US President, Barrack Obama also commented on the issue in his Twitter thread. He wrote that the decision attacks the “essential freedom of millions of Americans”.

Director Stephen King also commented on the ruling

Comedian Vir Das also took to his Twitter handle to post a few lines by a famous American comedian George Carlin to aptly put forth his views on the US Supreme Court’s decision.

Indian actor Gulshan Devaiah also expressed his views in the simplest way.

Many other known personalities took to their Twitter handles to talk about this inhumane judgment and how no value has been given to women’s freedom in this regard.

Reactions on Twitter show how disappointed everyone is not just by the decision but the United States as a whole. The US which is apparently a world power is setting the worst example for the world with this decision of simply taking away women’s right over decisions on their own bodies.
