This Woman From Gujarat Murdered Her MIL After Being Asked To Follow COVID Protocols. Our Mental Health Has Really Taken A Hit

It’s been eight months since the coronavirus darkened our doorstep. It’s the gift that keeps on giving. From impacting our health, finance and mental state, this pandemic has also ensured a surge in crime rates. From domestic violence to rapes to lootings, if you thought it was bad before, it’s worse now. However, today we are talking about a recent murder that took place because of this pandemic. A pregnant woman in Gujarat murdered her mother-in-law all because she was being asked to stay at home and shower after she goes out. This is terrifying! 

Okay, I understand how this pandemic, the lockdown and all the new “rules” that have come along with it can be a tad annoying. But it’s nothing to murder someone about. The incident took place in Gota, Gujarat. The pregnant woman, identified as Nikita Agarwal, bludgeoned her mother-in-law to death after getting fed up of being asked to follow COVID protocols. 

According to reports, the victim, Rekha Agarwal would hit Nikita with an iron rod. On the day of the incident, in a fit of rage, Nikita took the rod from Rekha and started hit her head with it. She revealed to the police that the lockdown just added to her frustration. Not to mention, according to the police report, Rekha was suffering from an OCD and was also being treated by a psychiatrist.

However, here’s the twist. Various other reports also say that Nikita murdered Rekha after they had a heated argument about an affair. You see, Rekha was under the impression that Nikita’s pregnancy was the result of her illicit relationship with her father-in-law. The feud escalated and Nikita ended up murdering her mother-in-law. This version of the story also says that after the murder, Nikita tried to cover it up by burning her mother-in-law’s body. 

A police officer said, “Due to her mental illness, she could not mix up with her daughter-in-law. Nikita, who is originally from Beawar in Rajasthan, killed Rekha as the latter suspected that Nikita’s pregnancy was the result of her illicit relationship with her father-in-law Ramniwas Agarwal.” 

There are contrasting versions of this story and I am sure there is so much we don’t know. But one this is for certain, this lockdown has taken a major toll on our mental health. From Rekha’s OCD to Nikita’s frustration, everything boils down to just that. However, this murder is horrifying and nothing can justify that.
