This Bride In UP Left Her Wedding To Go Collect A Certificate For Winning A Council Seat
If you were to take a minute and picture your wedding day, how would it go? Would it have you looking your extravagant self, walking in poised and happy for starting a new life? Or would you be the super chill and enthusiastic kind of a bride, dancing at your own big day? Or would have to brace ourselves for a bridezilla moment? You see, the possibilities of the kind of a bride you will be are endless, but one that we didn’t imagine happening at all was where you’re the kind of a bride, who leaves in the middle of the wedding processions to go get a certificate!
No, we are kidding you not!
Turns out, 28-year-old Poonam Sharma from Uttar Pradesh has given a new meaning to the term – runaway bride, one where it doesn’t mean that the bride escaped from the wedding altogether, but where she takes a break in the middle of the rituals to go collect a certificate.

As is what went down with Poonam Sharma from Rampur, wherein she heard the news about winning the block development council seat in panchayat elections in the state while she was just about to exchange garlands with her to be husband.

The wedding that was being taken place on May 2nd, happened the same day as the counting of the votes of panchayat elections. And when it came down to making a call, Poonam didn’t take a second to make that choice for herself. Midway in the garland exchange ceremony, she rushed to the counting center dressed in all her bridal attire. And mind you, the counting centre was 20km from the wedding venue and to receive the certificate, the bride reached at 9.30pm on Sunday!
In fact, a video of the incident has now gone viral on the internet, for obvious enough reasons too. The video shows even the officials sitting getting stunned at the sight of the bride in front of them, where in she can be heard saying, “Jaimala chhod kar aayi hoon.”

And for the ones like us who were left wondering what happened to the groom and the wedding, it was finally completed once Poonam got back with her certificate. She said, “This is the best wedding gift for me as I am a BDC member now. I can never forget this moment as all the rituals were complete and just before the ‘varmala’ I was told that I had won the election by 31 votes.” Isn’t that wonderful?
