Sushmita Sen Schools Twitter User Who Criticised Her On Sending Oxygen Cylinders To Delhi, To Help A Hospital.

It is an age old saying that ‘desperate times, call for desperate measures’. And keeping in mind the current pandemic situation of the world, one where people are literally fighting for life, things cannot get any more urgent and desperate than this. And with situation worsening in the capital city of Delhi, where patients are struggling to find oxygen, beds, ventilators and even medicine, no amount of help is enough. Which is why, when actress Sushmita Sen jumped on the wagon to do her bit, we were grateful. Although that is not what a twitter user thought.

Keeping up with just how terrible the situation in Delhi has become, with cases rising every minute and resources already running out, Aarya actress Sushmita Sen decided to chip in her efforts in any way she could.

Sharing a video Delhi’s Shanti Mukand Hospital’s CEO who broke down in a saddening video, talking about how his hospital that had active Covid patients, had run out of oxygen cylinders. He can be heard in the video saying, “We’re hardly left with any oxygen. We’ve requested doctors to discharge patients, whoever can be discharged…It may last for 2 hrs or something.”

Paying heed to his appeal to help, Sushmita Sen tried to arrange oxygen cylinders for the Hospital herself. Sharing his video, she wrote, “This is deeply heart breaking…oxygen crisis is everywhere. I have managed to organise a few oxygen cylinders for this hospital but have no way to transport it to Delhi from Mumbai…please help me find a way,” upon having found a few cylinders in Mumbai.

Several people who replied on the thread tried to come up with solutions as to how the cylinders could be transported to Delhi. However, one user in particular went on to question, “If Oxygen Crisis is everywhere why are you sending it to Delhi instead of giving it to some similar hospital in Mumbai.”

Giving the user a savage and a befitting reply, Sushmita reminded him of why one mustn’t lose touch with humanity and wrote, “Because Mumbai still has oxygen cylinders available, that’s how I found it. Delhi needs it, especially these smaller hospitals, so help if you can.” While its legit to be concerned of showing concern for your people and your city as a priority, it’s also important to show care and humanity for those suffering elsewhere, and provide help in whatever capacity one can.

Later on, Sushmita Sen shared the good news as to how the hospital was able to acquire oxygen from elsewhere and in time. She wrote, “The said hospital has oxygen organised for now!!! It gives us more time to send the cylinders!! Thank you all soooooo much for helping create awareness & support!! deeply grateful!!! Stay good hearted…it suits you.”

Meanwhile, she also managed to transport the spare oxygen cylinders to Delhi thanks to a twitter user who chose to help in. She wrote, “”A super happy update!!! Thanks to the help from our Twitter friend @shweta_jerry the oxygen cylinders are finally enroute to Delhi Hospital from Mumbai!! Shweta & her colleague went out of their way to make this possible overnight! Deeply grateful.” As are we.
