6 Minor Boys Gang-Rape 11-Year-Old Girl In Jharkhand’s Khunti District. A Not So Minor Crime
Not a day goes by when we don’t come across a rape case that sends shivers down our backbone. Every single day, there are brutal cases of rape that send shock waves across the country and no matter what we do, the number of sexual assault cases continues to rise. Sexually violent crimes against women continue to increase and there’s very little that we have been able to do the reduce the numbers. And the worst part in all of this is that these cases continue to get more brutal and inhumane. To the point, that now we have humans raping animals like goats and monitor lizard and whatnot. But in all of this, there’s another thing to note. These days we’re also coming across several cases where the accused in these sexual offences are minors themselves and sadly the law is rather lenient with the juveniles but the crimes are not juvenile. In yet another shocking case of sexual violence, an 11-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by 6 minor boys in Jharkhand’s Khunti district on Tuesday last week.
On Tuesday, the girl had gone to a neighbouring village to attend a wedding where she had an argument with the accused boys, who she was acquainted with, during a dance programme. Later in the night, when the girl was returning home along with two of her friends, the boys who were walking just behind them stopped her and took her to a deserted place and gang-raped her. The two friends of the girl escaped the spot and informed her parents about the incident after which the parents came searching for their daughter. But the accused boy fled the spot after seeing them.
According to the police, the girl shared the details of the incident with her parents and while they were initially hesitant to file a police complaint fearing social stigma, they later approached the police station on Thursday and registered a complaint. A probe was initiated in the case and the six accused boys aged between 10 to 15 years were detained and sent to a correctional facility.

I strongly believe that juveniles should be given an opportunity to change their ways but at the same time, how can we excuse them and give them a punishment for minor when the crimes they have committed is that of an adult. A minor punishment for an adult crime cannot be the right way to go.
