Sakshi Malik Makes India Proud As She Clinches Gold At The Commonwealth Games 2022

Indian women athletes are making history in this year’s Commonwealth Games which is considered to be one of the most prestigious sporting events. The Commonwealth Games, which is currently happening in Birmingham will see its finale on August 8. In this year’s game, India witnessed some glorious moments on the commonwealth podium as the athletes marked some remarkable wins. Till now India has secured 26 medals, among which the women athletes have contributed greatly. We again have got the opportunity to celebrate a golden moment at the Commonwealth games and this time wrestler Sakshi Malik has made it possible. Sakshi clinched her gold after a glorious victory in the women’s freestyle wrestling event. 

Sakshi Malik faced her final match against Canada’s  Ana Gonzalez on August 5, Friday. She marked a triumph win after defeating her opponent in the women’s wrestling  62 ks event, finally making her way to the much-deserved gold. It is a very special win for Sakshi as well as the country, as this is the first time an Indian women wrestler won gold in the Commonwealth games. Sakshi Malik previously had won silver and bronze in the 2014 and 2018 games respectively,  however, this time Sakshi surpassed her own past victories to reach for the gold. In her previous rounds, Sakshi had defeated Kesley Barnes in her first match and Berthe Emilienne Etane Ngolle in the semi-finals

The bronze medalist of the 2016 Rio Olympics made her spectacular comeback in the second half of the game. As per a report, Sakshi got India its third medal in wrestling and now we have a total tally of 9 gold medals.
