Nirbhaya’s Mother Demands For Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot’s Resignation Post His Comments On Country’s Rape Laws
Women in India are frustrated with all the rape news that makes headlines almost every other day, in fact, there might be more than that which do not even come to the surface. Every time you read such news, the anger boils within you and there is just one thing we all ask, why, why is it not ending? The Nirbhaya rape case and its horrors will never be forgotten. It gave chills to every citizen of the country. Nirbhaya’s mother never left hope and fought against the culprits so that her daughter could get justice. Now, a comment by Ashok Gehlot on the rape laws of the country that had come into effect after the Nirbhaya case has triggered her mother and Asha Devi has slammed his remarks.
On August 5, Friday, a press conference was attended by Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, during which he made some really unbelievable remarks on the rape laws of the country. As per media reports, Ashok Gehlot said that the strict rape laws that were brought in after the Nirbhaya rape case in Delhi, the rape cases have actually increased following that. He further added that after the laws, the culprits are aware that their victims will speak in the court of justice, therefore they ultimately kill the girl. Ashok Gehlot also stated that this has become a dangerous trend in the country.
Nirbhaya’s mother Asha Devi had a strong response to these statements by Ashok Gehlot and she stated that such comments reflect the mindset of the minister. Further, in her statement, Asha Devi said that this is an embarrassing remark to be made on laws that were by the country’s justice system. She also slammed the Chief Minister’s comment by saying that he made fun of Nirbhaya and the laws by putting forth such statements. She added that such a comment will be very hard on the families who have experienced these horrific times. Asha Devi in her statement also added that Ashok Gehlot should resign from his post as he has no respect for the victims and their families. As per reports, Asha Devi stated that rapes and murders of the victims were happening before the laws too.
