Lakhimpur Kheri Rape And Murder Case: Rahul Gandhi Attacks BJP Govt, Says Safety Cannot Be Expected From Those Who Release Rapists
Crime cases against women in our country just keep getting worse with every passing day. Reading news about rapes, kidnappings and murders keeps us worrying about our own safety as well as those near and dear to us. One such crime case that sent a chill down the spine of citizens is that from Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh. Two minor Dalit sisters have been raped and murdered, while, their bodies were found hanging from a tree just a kilometre away from their home. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched attacks on the central BJP government regarding the safety of women. He said that women’s safety can’t be expected from those who release rapists.
Taking to his Twitter account on September 15, Rahul Gandhi tweeted by writing that the kidnapping and murder of two minor Dalit sisters in the Lakhimpur Kheri area in broad daylight is a very disturbing incident. He also wrote that women’s safety cannot be expected from those who release rapists and felicitate them. Furthermore, he tweeted that a safe environment for the women and girls of this country must be created.

His sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also took to her Twitter account to slam the Uttar Pradesh government regarding the safety of women. She wrote in Hindi that the Lakhimpur Kheri rape and murder is a heart-wrenching incident. She also said that the victims’ relatives said the girls were kidnapped in broad daylight. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra wrote another scathing tweet wherein she said that giving out false advertisements in newspapers and television is not going to improve the law in the state. She also went on to question why are such henious crimes on a rise in Uttar Pradesh.

The Lakhimpur Kheri Superintendent of Police has said that they have arrested six accused in connection to this case. Their names are Junaid, Sohail, Hafizur Rehman, Karimuddin, Arif and Chottu. The SP also said that the girls left their home in the afternoon when after Junaid and Sohail persuaded them. The two confessed that they strangulated the girls after raping them.
