R Meera Becomes First Woman From Badaga Community To Become A Naval Officer. Keep Shining, Meera!

When I hear stories of women breaking glass ceilings and achieving their goals in life, it makes me feel very happy. Especially those from minority or ethnic communities who manage to achieve feats that nobody before them has. Their stories are quite inspiring and these women also become role models for children in their community to look up to. Well, we have a reason to rejoice as R Meera hailing from the Badaga ethnic community has become the first woman from the community to become a Naval officer. This is a huge achievement for her, her family and even her community.

First Naval Officer From The Badagas

As per a report by Deccan Chronical, Meera comes from Achanakal village M Ravindranath worked as a technical assistant in the army hospital wing. Meera studied at Kendra Vidyalaya in Aruvankadu. She also pursued her studies at various other Kendriya Vidyalaya in Jammu, Pune and Delhi. Meera has a degree that she got from Hindustan Engineering College which is located in Coimbatore.

After getting her degree in engineering, Meera’s interest inclined towards joining the Indian Armed Forces and that is when she decided to appear for the Combined Defence Services Examination. She did not just pass the examination with flying colours, she also did her best at the interview which got her selected for Indian Navy. Before officially joining the Indian Navy, Meera had to finish a 22-week training period at the Indian Naval Academy in Ezhimala, Kerala. Her designation is Sub Lieutenant in the Indian Navy.

Sharing details of how she managed to achieve this, Meera has said that she learnt Hindi well because of her life with her parents in the North. She also said that the Army environment she grew up in also instilled confidence in her to try for a post in the armed forces.
