Queen Elizabeth II Opens Up On Her Experience With Covid-19, Feeling “Very Tired And Exhausted”

While the Covid-19 pandemic was hard on all of us, I think the most vulnerable members of our society: are the senior citizens. I remember going through the pandemic with both my grandmothers, one of which who had severe illnesses. Also, I remember how worried and paranoid we used to be to make sure they are safe. I was reminded of this when I read Queen Elizabeth II’s statement talking about the severe fatigue she experienced due to contracting Covid-19.

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II opened up about her experience with Covid-19 and the severe fatigue she experienced because of it. She had downplayed her symptoms back then by saying that she had “mild, cold-like symptoms”.  However, she was forced to cancel multiple meetings and appointments with foreign diplomats at the beginning of her 70th year on the throne.

In a video-link interaction with the staff and patients of the Queen Elizabeth Unit in Royal London Hospital in east London hospital, Queen Elizabeth recalled her Covid-19 experience on Wednesday. While speaking to a former patient and survivor, she understood their pain and agreed that the virus can leave one pretty exhausted and very tired. She further said that the pandemic has been horrible and has not had nice results.

The unit at the hospital was built in record time to help with the increasing amount of patients and the pandemic. The construction crew attributed the timely work to the “Dunkirk spirit”; referring to WW II when the British and allied forces from Northern France retreated in the face of Nazi Germany. According to The Economic Times, she said, “It is very interesting, isn’t it, when there is some very vital thing, how everybody works together and pulls together — marvellous, isn’t it?”

There have been concerns floating around regarding the Queen’s health since she had to be admitted to a hospital overnight, last October which was revealed by the palace later on. She has also complained of mobility problems as her public appearances have reduced while her 96th birthday arrives on April 21.
