Punjab Woman Buries A Three-Month-Old Girl Alive Over A Domestic Dispute

Every time I open any news portal in the last few months, it is riddled with chilling crime stories. The way women are being treated is terrifying. From rape to abuse, it seems like we just can’t catch a break. What’s worse is that all our pleas and cries of help are falling on deaf ears. Here’s the thing though, we are so habituated to blame the men for these horrendous crimes that we sometimes forget just how evil our gender can be. We were reminded of that recently when reports of a 3-month-old girl being murdered in Punjab came to light. It’s a chilling tale of a woman burying the child alive.

In the Fazilka district of Punjab, a three-month-old girl was buried alive in a septic pond of the toilet. According to the police this crime was committed by the girl’s aunt who wanted to take revenge against the child’s mother over a domestic dispute. It’s terrifying. If this lockdown has taught us anything, there are ways to deal with a domestic dispute that doesn’t involve murder.

All this came to light when the victim’s mother, Amandeep Kaur, left her daughter with the neighbours as she went to the bank. When she returned, the girl was missing. Her family started searching for the child but to no avail. Then, on Friday morning, Amandeep’s husband’s brother’s wife, identified as Sukhpreet Kaur, told her that she had seen the girl’s legs in the septic pond of the toilet. After this, the child’s body was retrieved from the septic pond.

This is when the family started getting suspicious about Sukhpreet. They realised something was fishy since they hadn’t spotted the girl in the septic tank while looking for her. Amandeep filed a complaint against Sukhpreet on the suspicion that she had murdered her daughter. During interrogation, Sukhpreet confessed to the murder. She told the police that she murdered the child as revenge against her mother over a domestic dispute. Sukhpreet has been booked for murder.

According to reports, the victim’s mother said, “Taking advantage of my absence, Sukhpreet, who us the wife of my husband’s younger brother, sent my son to fetch the girl from the neighbouring house and buried her alive in the septic tank of the toilet.”

How does someone have it in them to murder an innocent child over something as petty and resolvable as a domestic dispute? This entire incident was gruesome and horrifying.
