Olympic Gold Medalist Tracks Down The Woman Who Helped Him Get To The Stadium In Time. This Is So Wholesome

In my short time as a journalist, I have written a lot of heart-wrenching stories. From rapes to murders. Just this morning I wrote an article about an acid attack. Do I enjoy writing about women getting hunted down every day? No. But these are the stories that need to be told. These women need to be given a voice and some semblance of justice. However, sometimes I come across an incident of pure joy and it warms my heart. Like this one for instance. Jamaican hurdler Hansle Parchment tracked down the woman that paid his taxi fee in Japan to the Olympic stadium where he went on to win the gold medal. It’s these kinds of stories that reaffirm my shaken faith in humanity.

Hansle Parchment narrated this story in a video he posted on social media. In this video, he tracked down a Tokyo Olympics volunteer, Tiana, and went on to thank her. She paid for his taxi fee to the Olympic stadium. He showed her the gold medal that he’d won because of her help. He also gave her an Olympic T-shirt and the money that she paid for the taxi. In the video, Hansle told Tiana, “You were instrumental in me getting to the final that day.”

Reportedly, on the day of the race, Hansle feared that he would miss the 110m hurdles final when he got on the wrong coach and ended up at the wrong venue. All the Tokyo 2020 cars were booked and he couldn’t take a bus back to the Olympic village. That’s when he saw Tiana. He said in the video, “I saw this volunteer and I had to beg, ‘cause of course she is not allowed to do much, and she gave me some money to take one of the taxis. And that’s how I was able to get to the warm-up in time and had enough time to compete.”

Sometimes, it’s the small things we do for someone that go a long, long way. This incident is so wholesome!
