Women Look Out For Safe Sex More Than Men, As Per NFHS Data

Sex is a taboo topic in our country, especially when it is women talking about it. However, if you ask me, I’d say when it comes to having safe and consensual sex, women are much more mature and responsible compared to men. And if you think it is just me who deems this to be true, then let me tell you that it is not the case. The National Family Health Survey-5 (NFHS-5) (2019-2021) collected data from over 6 lakhs of households across the country to study condom practices among unmarried men and women and found that there were more unmarried women who preferred to have safe sex as compared to men. See? I told ya!

The NFHS-5 (2019-2021) went collecting data from more than 6 lakhs households in 707 districts in India and concluded that when it came to condom practices among unmarried men and women, it was more women who preferred to have safer sex than men and this was true to all age brackets.

According to the NFHS-5 data, there were 57% of men only used condoms as compared to 61.2% of women in the 15-19 years of age bracket. And when it came to single men who prefered safe sex increased to 64% and women who used condoms increased to 65.3%.

The data also showed that women in rural India have more sexual encounters (1.5%) compared to women (1.4%) in urban cities. And this is the same thing when it came to men who in the rural areas had more sexual encounters (7.5%) compared to those in urban areas (7.3%).

The NFHS-5 data also showed that it was teenage boys were more active than girls. And it was women who preferred safe sex compared to single men and this was true in every single age bracket. It also highlighted that 95% of women in the age bracket of 23-24 years have had more sex compared to 77% of men.
