Congress member Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury’s comment calling President Droupadi Murmu Rashtrapatni has caused quite a stir, to say the least. Not only has he apologised but it has also resulted in a verbal discourse between Smriti Irani and Sonia Gandhi which trickled down to Twitter talking about this entire situation. Now news has come that the National Commission for Women (NCW) has sent a notice to Adhir Chowdhury regarding his comments.
Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has received a notice from the (NCW) requesting that he come before the panel in person and submit a written justification for his Rashtrapatni remarks. On August 3 at 11:30 am, the Senior Congress Leader is expected to testify before the women’s panel. The NCW has also written to Sonia Gandhi, the leader of the Congress, requesting that she step in to resolve the issue and discipline Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury for his “derogatory” remark.
Along with the NCW, 13 state women’s commissions released a united statement criticising MP Adhir Ranjan Choudhary’s remarks. The Congress MP’s remark on President Droupadi Murmu has been labelled as insulting, misogynistic, and constitutes an attempt to humiliate the President, according to them.

Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, who had earlier called President Droupadi Murmu Rashtrapatni in a video clip said that he only used that term once and it was an accident. He said that BJP is exaggerating the entire situation, and is causing pointless fights. The Congress member has stated that while he will apologise to President Droupadi Murmu, he will not do so to BJP members, who he referred to as “pakhandi” who objected to Chowdhury’s alleged “slip of tongue.”
