Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy And Wife Olena’s Vogue Cover Has The Internet Furious. Should Grief Be Glamourised?
A conversation about magazine covers amidst wartime is something one finds hard to wrap a head around. And it is exactly what’s happening with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky and his wife Olena Zelenska’s latest photoshoot. The couple who has been a point of inspiration for the onlookers and a million Ukrainians, who are fighting a war, broke the Internet with their faces stuck on the front covers of fashion magazine, Vogue. Talking about their time in the war, the resilience of their citizens and the marriage they share, the couple was instantly under the spotlight, for not-so-great reasons.
Diving into the deepest tales of the war and the grit of every woman, who stands strong to face it, the interview puts First Lady Olena Zelenska’s lens to it. Calling her a “portrait of bravery” as she poses alongside armed female soldiers, Zelenska has been described as “the face of her nation’s emotional toll.” In the images shared by the fashion magazine, we see the couple facing the camera with grieving faces, and anxious emotions as they dress in the most minimal creations of Ukrainian designers. While it’s all fair to venture out and know the leaders who have been nothing but the strongest pillars of support to their land, some or perhaps many of their native Ukrainians and others, in general, have been finding it hard to understand.
